Abstract

For semilinear elliptic equations in multidimensional Euclidean space, we show there exist nonlinearities that give rise to ground state solutions that cannot be found by shooting. These ground states are members of a one-parameter family of solutions whose overall character does not undergo transition at the parameter value corresponding to the hidden ground state. We construct nonlinearities of this type by perturbing nonlinearities of well-studied types.
